World Malaria Day 2017: Understanding and Combatting Malaria

On April 25th annually, World Malaria Day raises awareness about malaria, emphasizing prevention and treatment to combat this deadly disease.

Malaria Overview

Malaria, caused by the Plasmodium parasite transmitted through mosquito bites, poses a significant global health threat, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Symptoms include chills, fever, and flu-like illness.

Global Impact and Prevention

Malaria disproportionately affects impoverished regions and vulnerable populations like children and pregnant women. Prevention strategies include insecticide spraying, mosquito nets, and timely treatment with appropriate medications.

2017 Theme: “End Malaria For Good”

Focused on achieving a malaria-free world by 2030, this year’s theme underscores global efforts outlined in the “Global Technical Strategy for Malaria 2016-2030” by the World Health Assembly.

Call to Action

Dr. S Chakravorty urges collective action to join the global fight against malaria, advocating for widespread education and preventive measures to eliminate malaria’s burden by 2030 in India and beyond.
