Patients with high level of creatinine can undergo Coronary Angiography, Rotablation, Stenting

By Dr. (Prof.) Purshotam Lal in Cardiology Interventional Cardiology

May 2, 2018

In the past years it was seen that if the patients have high level of creatinine indicating kidney dysfunction the patients were not subjected to angiography or angioplasty because the dye itself can make further worsening of the kidney leading to dialysis at times. We at Metro Heart Institute, Delhi NCR, India are performing successful Cath Lab procedures on patients with a high level of creatinine (up-to 5-6mg/dl) quite frequently. Such patients, with high level of creatinine at times, are not fit for bypass surgery. The technique used in such cases is good preparation of the patient with hydration. Enough amount of fluid is given to hydrate the kidneys of the patients. Thereafter the procedure is performed in a way that a minimal dye is used. We are continuously performing angioplasties with Rotablation on patients with creatinine of more than 2.5 – 5 mg/DL with the dye usage of less than 10 – 15cc. It has been observed that in the immediate follow up after one week the creatinine has never gone up and instead it is found to be slightly low, it may be because of the good preparation of the patient for the procedure.

The patients who are suffering from the kidney dysfunction don’t have to worry about the treatment of their heart condition and the procedures like Angioplasty, Diamond Drilling (Rotablation), Stenting can be easily performed.

Padma Vibhushan & Dr. B C Roy National Awardee, Dr. Purshotam Lal, Director – Interventional Cardiology performs such cardiac catheterization procedures on patients with high level of creatinine on regular basis with 100% success rate and fast post procedure recovery.
