By Dr. Puja Kushwah in Metro Hospital and Cancer Institute, Preet Vihar, Delhi
A 55-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, who had been grappling with recurring paralysis attacks in both legs for six months, has achieved a remarkable recovery following successful treatment at Metro Hospital Noida. After enduring three separate instances of leg paralysis, the patient sought medical help at METRO HOSPITAL, NOIDA, feeling disheartened and hopeless. Initial attempts at diagnosis in Uttar Pradesh had proven inconclusive, and despite various treatments, the attacks persisted with only marginal improvements.
The patient experienced weakness in both legs, relied on a foley catheter for urination, and suffered from sensory loss. The severity peaked during the third and most debilitating attack, leaving him bedridden and experiencing vision problems. Upon arrival at Metro Hospital, a thorough assessment Including MRI scans, lumbar puncture, specific blood tests, and a VEP test was conducted. The expert medical team diagnosed the patient with a demyelinating disorder, a treatable condition falling under neurology. Demyelinating disorders typically manifest as recurrent attacks with symptoms like paraparesis, quadriparesis, vision loss, and tingling or numbness in various body parts. Early diagnosis is crucial, as missed. diagnoses can lead to severe disabilities. Public awareness plays a pivotal role in early detection and treatment of such disorders.
Dr. Puja Kushwah, the attending physician at Metro Hospital Noida, stated, “After confirming the diagnosis, we promptly initiated a series of specific Injections administered over five consecutive days. This treatment significantly improved the patient’s weakness, allowing him to regain mobility. Additionally, we devised a treatment plan to prevent future paraparesis attacks, which was thoroughly discussed with the patient and his family. The patient has now started disease-modifying therapy.
Dr. Puja added, “Today, after three months of treatment, the patient is thriving. He can walk independently, and the foley catheter has been removed. This extraordinary transformation from a bedridden state to independent mobility underscores the effectiveness of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment for demyelinating disorders.
Dr. Sonia Lal Gupta, Director & HOD Neurosciences at Metro Hospital, emphasized the importance of timely diagnosis and targeted treatment in addressing demyelinating disorders. She urged the public to remain vigilant about early neurological symptoms and seek prompt medical attention for timely diagnoses, as demonstrated by this successful case.
