An Inflammatory Bowel Disease presented as Skin Lesions
By Dr. Shallu Verma in Metro Heart Institute with Multispecialty, Faridabad
A 22-year-old female patient with complaints of persistent skin lesions for the last 5 months visited Dr. Shallu Verma at Metro Hospital. She had received treatment at multiple places, but her lesions continued to increase upon evaluation. She was diagnosed with Erythema Nodosum after ruling out infective and inflammatory causes. Additionally, she had on-and-off loose stools, and a biopsy revealed Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Dr. Shallu Verma treated the patient with DMARDs, and gradually her lesions improved. Four weeks after treatment, the patient was absolutely fine with no skin lesions or abdominal symptoms.
DMARDs are a safe treatment option used in various rheumatological illnesses. Erythema nodosum-like lesions and inflammatory bowel disease can coexist and should be treated promptly.
