By Dr. Ravinder Kaur Khurana in Metro Heart Institute with Multispecialty, Faridabad
Metro Hospital Faridabad has once again demonstrated its commitment to providing quality medical care with the successful management of a live ectopic pregnancy case. The patient came with a positive pregnancy test and an ultrasound showed a live tubal ectopic pregnancy of the right adnexa, measuring 2.5cm x 2.5cm with a serum beta HCG level of >15,000 units. Surgery was advised, but the patient was not willing to undergo it. Hence, the patient was admitted and treated with Injectable methotrexate and mifepristone tablet. Dr. Ravinder Kaur Khurana explained the need for surgery if required while undergoing medical treatment. Two doses of Injectable methotrexate were given to the patient along with the tablet mifepristone 200mg.
On day 4, the beta levels had increased to 25,000, but the patient had no signs or symptoms of pain in lower Abdomen, Fainting & Giddiness. The patient was advised to continue with the 3rd dose of Injectable methotrexate and follow up with weekly titre of S.Beta HCG, which decreased from 5432 -> 243.21 -> 15.20 in the next 3 weeks. A follow-up ultrasound Scan done at 6 to 8 weeks was normal. The treatment was found to be effective and evidence-based studies have shown that medical management can be done in live ectopic pregnancy with a multi-dose regime of Injectable methotrexate along with mifepristone tablet.”
