Uro-oncology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of cancers affecting the urinary system and the male reproductive organs. These include cancers of the kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and male reproductive organs such as the testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate, and penis.
Kidney cancer occurs when normal cells in the kidney mutate into abnormal cells and proliferate uncontrollably. The kidneys, located on either side of the mid-back, filter blood and remove waste, excess salt, and water, forming urine.
Smaller kidney tumors may not cause symptoms. Larger tumors or those that have spread outside the kidney can cause:
These symptoms can also be caused by non-cancerous conditions, so it’s important to see a doctor if they occur.
If symptoms suggest kidney cancer, imaging tests such as CT scans, MRI, or ultrasound may be used to detect tumors. Often, kidney cancer is discovered incidentally during imaging tests for other conditions.
Cancer staging determines how far the cancer has spread, which is crucial for planning treatment.
Treatment options include:
Regular check-ups and tests are necessary to monitor for cancer recurrence.
Prostate cancer is a common cancer in the prostate gland of the male reproductive system. It often grows slowly, but some types can spread rapidly, particularly to bones and lymph nodes. It usually affects men over 65 and may cause urinary difficulties.
Early detection, when the cancer is confined to the prostate, increases the chances of successful treatment.
Bladder cancer involves the abnormal growth of cells in the bladder.
Tests include urine tests, imaging tests (X-rays, CT scans), and cystoscopy (a procedure to view the bladder directly).
Regular tests and monitoring for recurrence are essential.
Penile cancer is rare and typically affects men over 50. It occurs on or within the penis and can be treated with surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy.
Testicular cancer, another rare type, affects the testicles and is treated with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.
Our team integrates advanced medical technologies, minimally invasive therapies, and research to manage urologic cancers. We employ a multidisciplinary approach, involving medical and radiation oncology expertise.
We perform robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgeries for various urologic cancers, including advanced procedures like robotic radical nephrectomy and cystectomy.
Our radiation oncology department uses state-of-the-art techniques like IMRT, IGRT, and SBRT for precise treatment. We offer organ-conserving radiation therapy for suitable bladder cancer patients.
We utilize chemotherapy, targeted therapy, hormonal therapy, and immunotherapy to treat urological cancers, aiming to cure localized disease and control advanced disease.
Diagnosis involves a thorough evaluation, including symptoms assessment, medical history, physical exams, and screening tests such as biopsies, blood tests, and imaging.
Our holistic approach includes a multidisciplinary team of uro-oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and other cancer care specialists. We tailor treatment plans to each patient’s needs, ensuring comprehensive and compassionate care.
We offer a wide array of treatment options, from conventional care to leading-edge alternatives, ensuring patients receive the most advanced and effective care available.
Our top priorities are patient health and well-being. We guide patients and their families through the treatment process, from the first visit to post-operative care, ensuring a supportive and empathetic experience.
